My name is Rachel Ortiz, LMSW, and I am an Austin-based psychotherapy associate specializing in working with adults and couples. My mission is to allow my clients to be truly seen and heard and to walk alongside them as they become more empowered to navigate some of life’s most challenging moments.
I believe the relationship between the client and the therapist is central to the healing process, and I prioritize and foster that relationship through empathy, compassion, and a strengths-based perspective. My therapeutic goals can include, helping you reconnect with your inner resilience, cultivating and building practical coping skills, and supporting you as you move toward a life that feels more stable, meaningful, and authentically yours.
With a deep respect for the strength it takes to seek support, I provide a grounded space where healing and growth can take root.
I hold both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in social work from Texas State University. When I’m not in sessions, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, weightlifting, yoga, and spending time with my three exuberant boys.
Drawing on research supported approaches, I tailor each session to meet my clients’ unique needs and goals. Depending on your needs, sessions may focus on navigating complex life transitions, processing difficult emotions, reshaping negative thought patterns, and/or reconnecting with what gives your life purpose.
I work with a variety of clients including those experiencing life transitions—such as career changes, divorce, grief, or entering new life stages—helping you find solid ground during times that feel uncertain.
I have a deep passion and sensitivity for veterans. As a former military spouse, my work is deeply informed by an understanding of the unique challenges that Veterans and their families face—including trauma, identity shifts, moral injury, and the isolation that can come after service. I have experience working within military and Veteran systems and bring cultural competence, respect, and dedication to those who have served and their loved ones. My experience also includes supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, and a variety of other mental health challenges. Additionally, I specialize in challenges with relationships and intimacy, the LGBTQ+ population, and aging.

I can’t express how much Rachel has helped me. She provided me with tools to manage my anxiety and stress to greatly improve my mental health.
