EMDR Intensives are an extended, immersive approach to trauma therapy designed for
people who want meaningful progress in a shorter period of time. Instead of spreading
the work out over many weeks, an intensive allows us to focus deeply and intentionally
on your goals, giving your nervous system the time and space it needs to truly process.
This format can be especially helpful if you feel “stuck,” are managing complex or
layered trauma, or simply want a more efficient and contained therapeutic experience.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR ) is a well-researched therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer feel overwhelming or disruptive in the present. An EMDR Intensive provides the same evidence-based treatment, but in a longer, more concentrated format. Rather than stopping just as the work begins to deepen, as can be the case in a traditional 50-minute session, an intensive allows us to:
● Build momentum
● Stay with the nervous system until it settles
● Integrate insights and emotional shifts more fully
● Reduce the need to “re-open” material week after week
Each EMDR Intensive is thoughtfully structured to support safety, depth, and integration.
This session happens prior to the intensive and focuses on:
● Your history and current concerns
● Identifying treatment goals
● Assessing readiness and emotional resources
● Creating a clear plan for the intensive session
This ensures that when we begin reprocessing, you feel grounded, prepared, and
supported.
The intensive session is multifaceted. It includes identifying targeted memories for reprocessing, building up resources and tangible skills for remaining grounded, and focused blocks of EMDR reprocessing. We move at a pace guided by your nervous system, with time for breaks, regulation, and reflection as needed. This extended format allows for deeper processing and often leads to more noticeable shifts in symptoms, beliefs, and emotional reactivity.
A follow-up session is scheduled after the intensive to:
● Integrate and make sense of what came up
● Address any lingering emotions or insights
● Support stabilization and continued healing
● Determine next steps, if desired
EMDR Intensives can be a good fit for individuals who:
● Have experienced trauma, loss, or chronic stress
● Feel stuck in traditional weekly therapy
● Want focused support around a specific issue or memory
● Have limited availability for ongoing sessions
● Are emotionally ready to engage in deeper work
Intensives are not about pushing or forcing change—they are about creating enough time and support for your system to do what it already knows how to do: heal.
Your wellbeing is always the priority. EMDR Intensives are offered with careful screening, collaborative pacing, and an emphasis on sustainability. We work together to ensure that the process supports healing without overwhelm or burnout.
